Velsen-Zuid has no municipal paid zone and no official blue zone at the ferry. Use Pontplein / ferry-side lots and obey temporary works or no-parking signs.

Velsen-Zuid combines a much older settlement history with the transport story of the North Sea Canal. The canal’s construction between 1865 and 1876 broke the old north–south routes through Velsen, and a ferry became part of the new connection.
From 1901 to 1924, the Haarlem–Alkmaar steam tram even crossed the canal on rails laid on a ferry deck. Canal widenings later removed much of the village, but the historic core has been protected since 1970. The ferry continues the cross-canal link between Velsen-Zuid and Velsen-Noord.
