Velsen’s 2026 paid zones cover only IJmuiden centre and beach areas—not Velsen-Noord. There is no public garage at the ferry.

Velsen-Noord grew out of a major break in the landscape: the North Sea Canal split Wijkeroog from Velsen between 1865 and 1876. Renamed Velsen-Noord around 1920, the north-bank settlement developed alongside industry.
The first Hoogovens furnace was lit here in 1924, and company-backed housing shaped the village in the decades that followed. The ferry remains the everyday connection across the canal to Velsen-Zuid, joining an industrial north bank to the older village landscape on the south side.
