Travel guide
It is the direct central-station crossing for the eastern side of central Amsterdam Noord.
F2 is free and carries pedestrians, bicycles, mopeds and permitted disability vehicles, but not cars or brommobiles.
IJplein is on the north side of the IJ, east of Buiksloterweg.
Paid street parking around €3.01/hour.
Since 13 April 2026, IJpleinbuurt charges about €3.01/hour Monday–Saturday 09:00–24:00 and Sunday 12:00–24:00. There is no public car garage at the landing.
For longer city visits, P+R Noord is usually cheaper than all-day street parking.

The IJplein ferry arrives beside a neighbourhood built where the Amsterdam Dry Dock Company once stood. After shipbuilding declined, the former yard made way for IJplein, an ambitious housing district realised between 1980 and 1987 with OMA, the office led by Rem Koolhaas.
IJplein was designed to face the water: its open blocks and public space give many residents, and the older Vogelbuurt behind them, views across the IJ. The planned square was never built, but the name IJplein remained for this distinctive waterfront neighbourhood.
