Hempontplein is outside Amsterdam’s municipal paid parking zones. Use the marked public bays by the ferry; there is no visitor garage on site.
Avoid private industrial lots. Pedestrians and cyclists cross free; cars pay a separate ferry fare on board.

Hempontplein has been a North Sea Canal crossing since 1876, when the new waterway made ferries and bridges essential between Amsterdam and the Zaanstreek. The Hempont ran beside the Hembrug railway bridge, which connected the Amsterdam–Zaandam line from 1878 until 1983.
The Coentunnel changed regional car travel after 1966, but the crossing retained a practical role for people, bicycles and traffic that cannot use the tunnel. The landing remains a transport node shaped by canal, rail and the western port area.
