It is a practical walking and cycling connection across the western IJ and avoids a journey through Centraal Station.
F6 is free but does not operate all night; check the selected day for its service span.
Distelweg is the north-side landing. Pontsteiger is directly across the IJ in western Amsterdam.

Distelweg / Distelkade sits in Amsterdam tariefgebied 7. Paid hours are typically Monday–Saturday 09:00–19:00 and Sunday 12:00–19:00. There is no municipal visitor garage at the landing.
Park here rather than at Pontsteiger on the south bank (about €6.98/hour) and take the free F6 ferry.

The Distelweg ferry lands in Buiksloterham, a nineteenth-century reclaimed polder that became an industrial shore of Amsterdam. As factories and ship-related businesses arrived, the waterfront needed working connections for goods as well as people.
A municipal passenger ferry between Abel Tasmanstraat and Distelweg opened in 1957. Near the present landing, a rail ferry once carried wagons across the IJ to serve local industry. Freight later moved to the road, but the passenger ferry still connects the redeveloping Buiksloterham with the Houthavens.
