Travel guide
The free crossing is useful when walking or cycling between east Amsterdam and Noord without travelling through Centraal Station.
Cars and brommobiles cannot use this IJ ferry.
The landing is at Azartplein on the south side of the IJ, near the eastern harbour islands.
Paid street parking around €5.37/hour.
Azartplein is in Amsterdam tariefgebied 3. Paid hours are typically Monday–Saturday 09:00–24:00; Sunday is usually free. There is no garage on KNSM-eiland itself.
Park cheaper at Zamenhofstraat in Noord (about €1.72/hour) and take the free F1 ferry.

Azartplein is on KNSM-eiland, part of Amsterdam’s Eastern Docklands. This largely man-made harbour landscape was built between 1874 and 1927, when Amsterdam needed deeper quays for increasingly large steamships. From 1903, the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij used the eastern end of the island for services to the Baltic, Suriname, the Antilles and the Levant.
After the Second World War, container shipping and air travel changed the port. KNSM stopped operating in 1979 and the waterfront became a city district. The ferry now makes a short IJ crossing from this former international harbour to Amsterdam Noord.
